Window felt, vacuum hoses, etc.

Replacing the rear sliding window felt on the 1997 defender 90 is not so difficult if you have the right starting technique (thank you to Britannica Restorations for the tip!). The idea is to pull the widow as far open as possible, insert the felt strip partially with a tail hanging out, then hold the tail whilst sliding the window shut and open again, dragging the whole strip along with the window as it opens to move it as far back as possible. Then tuck in the next section of felt strip and repeat if necessary to position the felt into the groove across the top and down the front of the window. Using a small tool such as a screw driver helps to center and press it into place.

Also replaced two vacuum hoses on the plenum, but these replacement bit/parts are made from a poor material that lasted only a few months compared to the 28 years of the originals. In fact the originals would now be better back in there if they were still around. In the end a diy replacement was made from two sizes of fuel line and a 90 degree elbow. Also the dust caps for the front hubs were added and a rear sliding window catch replaced. Finally, a look at the interior construction while the trim was off, it is fairly similar to series rovers in some ways but not quite the same in others.
